At Saint Bonnet, we have split the land into 4 areas, the gardens, the upper field, the valley field and the woods. All the fields are fenced using stock fencing topped with 2.5mm high tensile wire. There is no barbed wire used anywhere on the farm. They are completely animal safe. The upper field has a very gentle slope away from the back garden via a 1.5m 5 bar galvanised gate of the house and can be accessed from the back garden and directly from the chicken and llama stables. The field is well drained and never gets muddy even after torrential downpours, apart from providing good grazing this field also provides excellent quality hay each year. The field is bordered on two sides (North and East) by dense commercial pine woods. The Valley Field slopes away from the property and down to the small woods which sit at the bottom, each side of the valley gets progressively steeper the further away from the property you go, but it is still possible to use the tractor and topper safely on these slopes (travelling up and down but never ever sideways!!!). Both slopes are topped with a flat area that allows you to travel down the entirety of the field and look down into the valley. When there has been a bout of torrential rain, water from the roadside drain enters the valley field and runs down the length of the field and into the woods. This means that even if the grass burns off during summer, there is always nice green grazing grass to be had in the valley field. The small woods at the bottom of the valley field is a lovely and shady place with large rocky outcrops visible, the perfect place for animals to seek shade during the heat of the day in summer. The woods are separately fenced and can can be closed off from the upper and valley fields with 2m 5 bar galvanised gates. As for Hunting, we are very fortunate in that there are very few days that hunting takes place and when it does they never ever come anywhere near the farm because of the animals. Thankfully the Hunts here, when they do occur, are extremely well organised and very strict. Even on days when a hunt takes place you often never hear a single shot fired.
